Utah's National Park Service lands--which include five national parks and four national monuments--are revered for their quiet soundscapes, unimpaired viewsheds, and awe-inspiring scenery.  The conservation-focused management of the National Park Service is intended to ensure that these resources are protected for generations.

We cannot take this protection for granted.

That is why I am deeply dismayed that you are planning to allow off-road vehicles on park roads in these magnificent landscapes where they have never before been allowed. These machines are specifically built for traveling off-road and at high speeds, and they threaten the resources our national parks and monuments were established to protect.  In addition, they far exceed the National Park Service's strict limits on noise impacts. Given the incompatibility of off-road vehicles with the Park Service's mandate to preserve these landscapes unimpaired for future generations, the failure to first analyze potential resource impacts or recreation user conflicts before even considering this proposal is indefensible, as is the complete lack of a public process.

The Department of Interior and National Park Service are required to follow laws and policies that will keep our national parks and monuments protected and preserved for the future. Allowing off-road vehicles in Utah's national parks and monuments will degrade the visitor experience and could do irreparable harm to natural and cultural resources. I urge you to do the right thing by continuing to protect Utah's national parks from this patently incompatible use.
